ART OF NISBAT ROAD

Style of documentary: Observational

Directed By: Saboor Akram

·       Brief Story of the Documentary and Inspiration: The documentary delves into the heart of Lahore's renowned Nisbat Road, a vibrant hub of camera markets and photography enthusiasts. The documentary aims to explore the rich history, diverse culture, and artistic essence of Nisbat Road, tying these elements together through the philosophical lens of Yin and Yang.

 ·         Central Message: The overarching message of the documentary is to portray Nisbat Road not just as a marketplace but as a living, breathing entity where the art of photography intertwines with the philosophical concept of Yin and Yang. It seeks to communicate that within the seemingly opposing elements—traditional and modern, light and shadow, history and evolution—exists a harmonious balance that defines the soul of Nisbat Road.

·       Aim: By outlining the thematic elements, key interviews, and the core message of the documentary, the proposal seeks to convey the unique and captivating nature of the project. It emphasizes the cultural significance of Nisbat Road, the timeless artistry of photography, and the universal philosophy of Yin and Yang that binds these elements together. The goal is to create a visually compelling and thought-provoking documentary that resonates with audiences, celebrating the convergence of history, art, and philosophy in Lahore's iconic Nisbat Road.

·       Research: Nisbat road, also known as chamberlain road is currently Lahore’s biggest and busiest roads and hosts one of the largest camera markets. Back in 1947, during partition it was one of Lahore’s finest residential areas, almost entirely Hindu. After partition, most of the abandoned homes were occupied by Amritsari refugees. This was the upscale hindu neighborhood developed and owned by the hindus exclusively. Dyal Singh college and Dyal Singh public library located here are still operational under their original names.

4. Identify potential hazards; who could be affected; how they could be affected; and list the control measures that will reduce the risk. University H&S policies can be found here.

Hazards or hazardous activity

Who may be affected?

Crew, actors, participants (documentary), crew, helpers, public.

How may they be harmed?

Type of injury or health problem that might result i.e. cuts, bruises, fractures, electric shock, burns etc.

List the control measures you will put in place to reduce risks from the hazards to an acceptable standard

Control measures should ultimately reduce the overall risk. Do not purely rely upon providing Personal Protective Equipment or rely on just ‘being careful’

Evaluate the probability and consequence

Indicative values for P column (P = Probability)

L = might happen, but unlikely

M = could happen

H = will probably happen

Indicative values for C column  (C = Consequence)

L = can return to filming work after minor attention

M = person unable to work for 3 days or longer

H = permanent injury or death
