Professional Toolkit - Artist Statement for website

  ARTIST STATEMENT I’m Saboor Akram — a filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist from Pakistan, telling stories where silence speaks louder than spectacle. My work lives at the intersection of cinema, emotion, and cultural memory. I’m drawn to moments of stillness, psychological tension, and unseen truths — using visuals not just to decorate but to  disturb ,  provoke , and  connect . Inspired by the likes of David Fincher and Ari Aster, I explore themes of isolation, identity, and suppressed chaos, often through minimal sets, fragmented timelines, and a muted color palette. Whether I'm building AI-enhanced visual narratives or shooting in the mud with 30 minutes of light, I create with instinct and intent. My practice bridges commercial campaigns and personal storytelling — from directing Pakistan’s first fan-made Spider-Man film to crafting fashion films that feel more like poems.   PRODUCTION PACK TITLE : SPOTLIGHT DIRECTED BY : SABOOR AKRAM MOTIVATION / IDEATION "Spotlight" was born from a deeply personal reflection on fear, self-doubt, and the overwhelming noise of social judgment. Drawing from my own experience of battling internalized shame and isolation, the film centers on the idea of reclaiming the imaginary spotlight we all long for—but are too afraid to step into. I used movement as a form of catharsis, inspired by a self-authored poem, and shot the entire piece in the intimate space of my bathroom. The minimalism and vulnerability of that space became symbolic of inner confrontation. The idea draws on the freedom and chaos of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker bathroom scene, interpreted here through an introspective, humanistic lens.
