Professional Toolkit - Artist Statement for website

ARTIST STATEMENT I’m Saboor Akram — a filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist from Pakistan, telling stories where silence speaks louder than spectacle. My work lives at the intersection of cinema, emotion, and cultural memory. I’m drawn to moments of stillness, psychological tension, and unseen truths — using visuals not just to decorate but to  disturb ,  provoke , and  connect . Inspired by the likes of David Fincher and Ari Aster, I explore themes of isolation, identity, and suppressed chaos, often through minimal sets, fragmented timelines, and a muted color palette. Whether I'm building AI-enhanced visual narratives or shooting in the mud with 30 minutes of light, I create with instinct and intent. My practice bridges commercial campaigns and personal storytelling — from directing Pakistan’s first fan-made Spider-Man film to crafting fashion films that feel more like poems. Through BOORAYY’s Studio, I hope to redefine what it means to create in this part o...

INNOVATION & INTERFERENCE // task002

PRODUCTION PACK TITLE : SPOTLIGHT DIRECTED BY : SABOOR AKRAM MOTIVATION / IDEATION "Spotlight" was born from a deeply personal reflection on fear, self-doubt, and the overwhelming noise of social judgment. Drawing from my own experience of battling internalized shame and isolation, the film centers on the idea of reclaiming the imaginary spotlight we all long for—but are too afraid to step into. I used movement as a form of catharsis, inspired by a self-authored poem, and shot the entire piece in the intimate space of my bathroom. The minimalism and vulnerability of that space became symbolic of inner confrontation. The idea draws on the freedom and chaos of Joaquin Phoenix's Joker bathroom scene, interpreted here through an introspective, humanistic lens. POEM Shrouded in fear, Fingers pointed, Words thrown as knives, But i chose to close my eyes, Hum to the melody, And move, move freely. A world of hate, So befriended myself before it wasn’t late. Black and white is t...

Task 3: Showreel Compilation

Image
Introduction For my final VFX task, I created a VFX Showreel, which serves as a visual portfolio showcasing my skills, creative journey, and technical expertise in visual effects and post-production. As a filmmaker and VFX artist, having a strong showreel is crucial. It acts as a first impression for potential clients, studios, and collaborators, demonstrating what I can achieve through past projects and creative storytelling. My showreel features the best of my work, compiling multiple VFX projects, compositing work, motion graphics, and cinematic effects, demonstrating my ability to enhance storytelling through post-production mastery. Thoughts Behind the Process Rather than just showcasing random shots, I wanted my showreel to have a flow and narrative, making it feel more like a cinematic montage than just a technical compilation. The goal was to make it immersive, engaging, and visually striking. I took inspiration from VFX-heavy filmmakers and editors like: Peter McKinnon –...

Task 3: Sound Design for Film/Documentary

Image
Sound design plays a crucial role in setting the tone and atmosphere of the scene.  Ambient sounds were carefully chosen to reflect the environment and were mixed at low levels to ensure they complement rather than overpower the main action. Foley sounds were recorded and integrated to enhance the realism of the actions on screen. For example, the swing of the sword, sound for punchesm chain and wind were used to mimic the realistic impact of the situation.  Diegetic sounds, which originate from within the story world, were prominently featured. Diegetic sounds are crucial for maintaining the believability of the scene and enhancing the viewers' immersion. Non-diegetic sounds, or sounds that are not part of the story world (e.g., background music, voice-over narration), were used to underscore the emotional undertones of the scene. Carefully selected music tracks from Epidemic Sound were employed to enhance the mood. For example, a slow, melancholic track might be used ...
